Coping with loss, especially when it’s a family member, may be one of the hardest challenges that many of us will ever face. The sense of sadness, shock, numbness, guilt and even regret can be overwhelming.

The death of our sister Heather in 2009 at the age of 36 sent us into a flat spin and left us with feelings of intense grief. Swimming became a place where we could find peace and something that we later decided to use to build a legacy for Heather.

The past couple of years have seen us take on some amazing personal swimming challenges. Now, in 2022, Aitch Sea Jays are back in the water as a tandem team, swimming the lengths of Lake Windermere, Lake Ullswater and Lake Coniston on 3 consecutive days. We are excited to be swimming together again and we are really looking forward to the final swim (Lake Coniston) on July 27th, which marks what would have been Heathers 49th Birthday.

Not satisfied with the 3 lakes, we then have an English Channel Relay Swim booked with 2 other wonderful pairs of sisters. All being well, Triple Double Trouble is due to hit the water sometime between 29th July-3rd August.

Heathers death was the catalyst for a renewed sense of meaning that offered purpose and direction to our lives. In our minds she will be forever young, fun loving, kind and giving. She was our baby sister, and she can never be replaced. Thank you for reading and for your kind donation.
