On the 7th of September I will be running the Great North run in memory of Harry Dubois. Harry was an exceptional young man who I had the honour to know and teach at Cheadle Hulme School. Sadly Harry passed away, age 17, due to an undetectable heart condition. His enthusiasm, ambition, and loving personality will be remembered by all within the school community. The British Heart Foundation continues to fund research and improve the lives of so many young people suffering from heart conditions, and for this reason I have chosen to fundraise for such an incredible charity.
Such research has saved lives across the UK, my cousin Isabelle received an Aortic valve replacement at the age of 8 that has given her the chance to thrive well into her teenage years, before she will again need replacement surgery. My uncle, Isabelle’s father, also sadly passed away 4 years ago from complications following heart surgery.
Heart conditions are extremely common in young people, with 12 deaths every week. As an individual who has a hole in the heart, I would welcome any donation however large or small to help fund vital research and raise awareness for Heart conditions across the UK.
