Enid was adored by those who knew her due to her warmth, charm, kindness and love of life. She loved to laugh and make people laugh. She was a proud and loving wife, mother grandmother - as well as being a good friend to so many.

Enid passed away peacefully on 21st August, 2024. The day before she died, she declared, "I'm full of joy!" This was the story of Enid's life - a life full of love, adventure and fun. When you reach the age of 96, there is much to celebrate. Although we are naturally sad at Enid's passing, we know that we are lucky to have had her in our lives for so long. Enid and Alan had just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary and we are thankful that she was able to enjoy the party in their honour. Their home was filled with family and friends - both of whom were so important to Enid in her life. Enid was always immensely proud of her family and their achievements. Teaching was an important part of Enid's life. At the age of 19, she taught a class of 54 children but had no problems with discipline! Apart from years out to raise a family, Enid continued teaching until she retired in 1992. She was an inspirational and much loved teacher at Marlborough School where she taught for 24 years. Enid was a social butterfly. Being a typical Geordie, she was the perfect hostess whose parties were legendary! She loved nothing more than having a home full of visitors and always urged them to "stay a bit longer!" Inner Wheel and charity work were important to Enid. She was President of local Inner Wheel clubs three times. She actively campaigned to raise money for Water Aid and Keech Cottage. In her latter years, Enid joined Rotary and Probus. Enid loved adventure - she and Alan travelled widely and particularly enjoyed a cruise. Enid loved the sea and would enjoy sitting on deck with a glass of wine and a good book! The British Heart Foundation was Enid's favoured charity as her father died from a heart attack in 1966 Enid was a truly remarkable lady who will be greatly missed, but will remain in our hearts forever.
