We have created this page in memory of John Gerard Lucey, known as Gerry to most, to encourage donations instead of flowers. Our aim is to raise awareness about heart conditions that may not be immediately apparent.

Until 2023, Gerry enjoyed excellent health, rarely visiting the doctor. However, in the summer 2023, he began losing weight and seemed unwell. Despite this, Gerry soldiered on, and after a series of health issues, it was discovered he had endocarditis, a bacterial heart infection. Unfortunately, the infection led to a stroke, making surgery risky.

During his nearly two-month hospital stay, Gerry showed incredible mental and physical strength and resilience, and returned home in November 2023, making great progress in his recovery. However, in January, it was discovered the damage to his heart had worsened and Gerry passed away on January 28, 2024.

Throughout his illness, Gerry received exceptional care from the staff at both Warwick Hospital and University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the British Heart Foundation.

Gerry is dearly missed by his true love Marian, his daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren, siblings, all his close family and many friends.

We hope that the money raised in his memory will help in the development of diagnoses and treatment of heart problems. Gerry’s memory lives on through your donation and support, which we thank you for.
