Much loved and greatly missed Husband, Dad, Grandad, Brother. Churchwarden of Fawkham and Hartley, Almoner Woolwich Poly Lodge No 3578.

John's career encompassed both local government and the private sector, He worked in management services, customer service, insurance and development. The last years of his career John was the Chairman and Chief Executive OPAL in St Albans. John enjoyed working with people and developing their skills and careers. He was for many years the Chairman of the (then titled) South East London Spastic Group organising events, day trips and two holidays to Spain in the 1970's when facilities for wheelchair users were very limited. John flew planes at home and abroad and was very proud when he gained his US pilot's licence in Hawaii. He also flew helicopters. He loved to travel and drive abroad. His friendships were wide and many.He was an active freemason, Almoner of Woolwich Polytechnic Lodge No. 3578. He helped with the rededication of the Woolwich Polytechnic Memorial Gates at Blackheath Rugby Club in 2023.John felt called to stand as Churchwarden of the Fawkham and Hartley. It was very different from his earlier experiences as Churchwarden of St Michael's East Wickham. However with the constant support of the congregation and his Co Warden Christine he managed eventually to recruit a new incumbent priest shortly before he died. Most of all he was a family man who relished time spent with his sons Matthew and Daniel, his daughters-in law Lynsey and Kelly. He keenly watched the progress of his grandchildren Ben, Toby, Harriet and Neve. He was married to Lynne for 54 years, but they initially met as next door neighbours in 1958.We all loved him very much and miss him everyday and we will treasure the times we spent together.Funeral was attended by more than 250 people. Thank you to all who attended, particularily to all who took part in the service especially Reverend Elizabeth Robinson and the All Saints' team and congregation. The family are deeply grateful for the love and support shown to them.
