Ken was a wonderful man. A loving husband to Jean for 50 years. Our Dad, grandad, and dear friend. A wonderful son and brother. Heart issues over many years finally caught up with him and he passed away peacefully on 1 April 2024, aged 91.

Originally from Middlesbrough, Kenneth Calvert was born on 14th January 1933 to Mary and Victor, joining sister Eileen. He served in the Merchant Navy as a Marine Engineer and travelled the world on the Blue Funnel line, leaving in 1962. The family moved to Northampton when Ken joined the Anglian Water Authority. There he had a successful career as an engineer until, in 1985, still in his early 50s, an ongoing heart condition forced him to take early retirement. Despite continuing challenges to his heart and chest function, along with his wife Jean, he was able to lead a very full and active life, although tennis soon gave way to golf, a sport they both loved. The family expanded, and Ken and Jean had many friends and a very active social life. Ken will be remembered as a kind and very clever man. He was patient and thoughtful, funny and wise. He had a tremendous work ethic, and a hunger for knowledge that never left him. He would encourage the children to learn as he had done himself, by applying science and logic to common sense. Throughout his whole life everybody loved him. He will be missed by his wife, his children, grandchildren, and by many friends who know they have been blessed to have had him in their lives. We will all miss his smile, and the twinkle in those ice-blue eyes. RIP
