My lovely Grandad sadly passed away on Sunday 5th May. He was the brilliant age of 94 years old and a very proud man living independently until January this year. He was kind, generous and he loved his family very much. He loved hearing about all of our life triumphs, I can hear him man of few words "That's it cocka, very good" in a proud and loving way. He was married to my Nan Margaret for many years until she passed in 2000. He loved and missed her so much, I know we'll miss them forever but it is nice to know they're back together now and happy up there. My wonderful Mom made sure he was well looked after and had a great life with our family. They were best friends and he was so proud of her (rightly so). My Mom and Dad did everything they could to make my Grandad's life easier and keep him independent for as long as possible. He had a talent for falling asleep anytime especially just after a Christmas dinner. He had a passion for reading and that's putting it lightly, he would always be excitedly asking you if you'd like to borrow any of his books and giving recommendations of his favourites such as PG Wodehouse and Bernard Cornwell to name a few. If he wasn't reading you'd find him watching Andre Rieu, old time musicals and plenty of westerns or doing a crossword. The reason we chose the British Heart Foundation as the cause for his funeral donation is because unfortunately in January my Grandad's heart became very weak and due to his advanced age there was nothing that could help. We were lucky in that we got to spend a few more months visiting in the Heathers Nursing Home, making sure he knew how much he was loved and surrounded by family. Affectionately known as Ted (Teddy Bear as my husband Kirk always says).Edward Bates was a brilliant man who lived a full life, we love him and will miss him everyday. 07.03.1930 - 05.05.2024
