Jonathan (PJ), tragically passed away on the 7th April 2018. He was only 27 years old, he had been playing Rugby for the team he loved, Steyning RFC. Shortly after the game, he collapsed outside the changing rooms. Players and supporters from both clubs gave immediate care. Jonathan was taken by ambulance to Brighton Hospital but sadly suffered further heart attacks. It was later discovered that Jonathan had an undiagnosed genetic heart condition. A popular member of the Steyning RFC squad and with his large group of friends outside of rugby, it was a tragedy that hit us all hard. We all have so many good memories. PJ - “Princess Jonathan” was a nickname well-earned for reasons that his teammates love to recall. PJ always stood out within the team for his enthusiasm, warmth and that infectious smile. He was the driving force in raising over £4000 for mental health and cancer charities that season. The club have recognised this with an annual award inspired by his commitment to fund raising. As a club we would like to do our little bit for the British Heart Foundation, who have done so much to prevent tragedies like this from happening. This page has been set up with the support of Jonathan’s family and is a celebration of his life and an opportunity to help raise money and awareness of all conditions relating to the heart. Please feel free to add any stories or anecdotes about this true gent. Much missed but never forgotten.
